Data collection begins!
Quantitative and Qualitative data collected via this study will be stored in REDCap or NVIVO (shown below) respectively
This week we started re-consenting traditional healers with the updated consent form following the amendment approval. With each traditional healer we re-consent, we administer the baseline surveys and conduct a baseline interview on the same day.
I will analyze one of the baseline surveys (that examines stigma) and the baseline interview as part of my Masters thesis beginning this Fall semester. This analysis will also be shared with the team on the ground to allow them to better understand the population they are working with and to highlight the baseline statistics/data of their study population; which will be used for comparison purposes during and at the end of the intervention period.
Hence, to ensure that data collection goes smoothly, I worked on creating labels, using the established participant IDs, for each participant's study folder, making the testing distribution accountability sheets (that help healers track who they offered the testing kits to, and their test results), making the participant enrollment cards, a sheet with the clinic liaisons contact information, a sheet with the healer's study responsibilities and procedures, and a adherence fact sheet for the healers.
As I leave Mbarara soon, the study team stated that they will continue the data collection process and share with me the data (that I will analyze) on a weekly basis. Additionally, I will meet with the data team, on a monthly basis, to discuss my analysis and preliminary results until I finish my analysis. Looking forward to our first meeting on September 7th 2023.
I would like to sincerely thank my Weill Cornell supervisor, Dr. Radhika Sundararajan, for allowing me to take part in this research opportunity. Additionally, I would like to thank the entire OMUYAMBI Project Team for welcoming me with open arms and allowing to be a part of the team for the entire summer. The 8 weeks indeed went by so fast! But it was definitely a great research/learning experience!
